Professionals Who Care advocates for those who may not be able to speak up.
We stand for caregivers who are fighting to access employment, keep their jobs, or grow in in their careers,
but who also need an inclusive workplace to succeed.

National Advocacy for Employed Caregivers

Our
Work
🚫 We oppose the return to office demands across all industries. These policies do not improve outcomes. It further disadvantages parents, those with disabilities, and caregivers.
🚫 We oppose the dismantling and demonization of diversity and inclusion efforts. We are the best when we make sure the best people are at the table - including ensuring diverse perspectives are informing critical decisions. We believe diversity should also include caregivers.
🎯 We appeal for greater federal protections for all employed caregivers. Their participation in the workforce is critical to our economy. FMLA covers only 56% of people employed. And FMLA can be financial unfeasible as most Americans are living paycheck to paycheck - and cannot simply go without pay.

Our Government
Funding
🚫 We oppose cuts to safety nets such as Social Security, Medicaid, Veterans Affairs, and early-intervention & preventative healthcare. We oppose the government's mass layoffs, recurring government shutdowns, and other program cuts. The decisions hurt the most vulnerable and further burden employed caregivers.
🚫 We oppose the defunding of medical and public health research at places like CDC, NIH, and universities. This research would save or improve the lives of countless in the future. We can't abandon the health potential of our future.
🚫 We oppose the decision to categorize a Nursing degree as non-professional, making it more difficult for people to enter the field.
🎯 We support measures to easier access to professional caregiving certifications.

Care
for Our
Loved Ones
🚫 We oppose any defunding of special education or other school-based supports for our children. We ask for an increased investment into before and after school programs for students of all abilities.
🚫 We oppose the dismantling of virtual health care. Virtual appointments are a game-changer for rural healthcare and for employed caregivers caring for those with chronic medical struggles.
🚫 We oppose the weakening of disability protections, including the lawsuit to strike down protections from discrimination and weaken the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). Employed caregivers do better when our loved ones do better.

Immigration
🎯 We appeal for a pathway to citizenship or legal status for the countless immigrants who provide critical medical care and supports to our loved ones.
🚫 We oppose the illegal arrests and illegal deportations of caregivers.
🎯 We appeal for greater compassion for all caregivers who are undocumented.

Other Acts in Congress
💙 We applaud the Caring Act which could create a new, non-refundable federal tax credit of up to $5,000 for eligible family caregivers. (H.R.2036)
🚫 We oppose the SAVE Act, which disproportionately disenfranchises employed caregiver voters who are more likely to have name changes as women and have less time, money, flexibility, and mental energy to meet the requirements. (H.R. 22)
🎯 We insist on measures to make good health care affordable and accessible for all - and that it is not only dependent on fulltime work with benefits. It does not make sense to harm the health of caregivers and their loved ones when caregiving puts them at risk of losing their jobs, reducing their hours, or being underemployed.
